BGMAPP is important to me because black women bring narratives to the field of geosciences that are often over-looked. It’s comforting to know I have a network of women, whom are reflective of me, to discuss and create those narratives with.

The film Hidden Figures shined a light on the forgotten history of Black women’s contributions to science....Black Girls MAPP will make sure those continuing contributions, specifically in the field of GIS science & technology, remain shining brightly in the light!

It’s time to change the narrative within black communities where geospatial is concerned. It’s time to empower young black girls to be superheroes with geospatial technology. It’s time to celebrate both the accomplishments and the future potential that have been hidden for far too long. I am super excited about how BGMAPP will play a major role in ALL of this!
